VRW: Shearburn Dominates Homestead 300 Until Race Postponed

Virtual Racing World

After just passing the half way mark of the VRW Homestead 300 on Monday night the server decided to disqualify over eight drivers. The incident resulted from a crash on the frontstretch during a restart gone wrong. The running order got destroyed as the pace car tried to pick up the field before the leader came by pit exit.

The Team Gulf Holmes #27 of Chris Shearburn was showing yet another dominating drive at the lead of the race when the anomaly occurred. Shearburn was apparently repeatedly given the 'stay behind the pace car/just let him by' message as the server gave multiple black flags to many drivers putting them out of the race after being disqualified by the server.

The VRW Race Stewards made the decision to pull the plug and the second to last race has been moved to April Fool's Day. The VRW has no rules provision for calling an event after the halfway point in laps.

VRW Founder Nim Cross released the following press release on Tuesday, March 19th:

"Last nights race was marred by a scoring bug. All but one or two drivers where affected and some drivers where DQ'd from the race without a chance to clear their BF.

"As a result we will re-run homestead Monday, April 1st, 2002.

"Atlanta will go on as scheduled."

The next VRW event is the Atlanta 300 (Live audio broadcast on PalTalk March 25th). Look for another strong showing by the Team Gulf Holmes #27 of Shearburn and pay attention to the power struggle between Shawn Wise and Mike Ramsden for the inaugural VRW Championship.
