Nick Morse: "Sit in Line, Pay Attention, and Not Try To Wreck Anyone"

Virtual Racing World

The Sportsman Twin 125's for The VRW started off with normal single file racing for about 5 laps till the drivers became.... well drivers.... and started dicing it up. Side By Side, Door to Door, Bumper to Bumper racing was the theme of the day for the Sportsman 125 Race #1.

Side By Side racing continued from lap 5 till Lap 10...

When the cars of #20 and #44 got together causing a good size wreck and ending there chances at advancing to the Daytona 250. Coming into the tri-oval the cars appeared to believe they were clear of each other and that's all that is needed to cause a wreck. Both drivers day's were ended with disappointing finishes.

After that wreck the drivers took no time to get the crowd back into it and bringing the excitement. Door to Door racing ensued from then on in. Bumping and banging between the leaders gave the crowd a show and the Owners a heart attack. None of the top 3 car's were victim to the bumping and banging.

The last wreck of the day was brought out on lap 47 of the race when the 51 and 28 cars got together and melee ensued. They were racing close for transfer spot into the Daytona 250 and one mistake cost them both. The wreck appeared to be a racing incident so no fines or penalties were handed out and both drivers walked away with a broken heart and not a broken checkbook.

The wreck ended both of the drivers chances at transferring and now they sit and wait to see if they can make it in on qualifying times.

With the yellow flying in the air on lap 47 the drivers knew it was time to move so going into turn 3 Nick Morse made it 3 wide as he tried to advance his position. All of the drivers held there line and came away clean and unscathed. The crowd was on there feet as the cars crossed the line for the yellow/checkered and with the Like Real Racing team taking the top 2 spots and earning there owner a total of $370,000 in 1 days work.

After the race we sat down with Nick Morse. Driver of the #36 Racing4Sport.com Chevy Monte Carlo to hear his thoughts on the race.

Reporter: First of all I would like to say good finish Nick and congrats on your pre-qualification pole. Now for the questions... What were your impressions on the first race for The VRW Sportsman Division and how was the outside groove working today?

Morse: Well Thank You for having me here today first of all and I would like to Thank Shawn Hurst for giving me the opportunity to drive his fantastic racecar today at Daytona. My impressions on the race today were outstanding. None of us guys out there really knew each other but we raced like we had been buddies since we were 5 years old. Great respect on the track and heads up decisions gave this race a wonderful finish and exciting racing through out. The outside groove today was just as strong as the inside groove. Both lines were even the entire day, the only problem is being boxed in for 20 laps. Not much we as drivers can do besides sit in line, pay attention, and not try to wreck anyone when that happens. That is expected at plate tracks though. With everyone so even now a' days all you can hope for is guys don't make stupid moves and they certainly didn't today.

Reporter: What was going thru your mind when you made the move for 3 wide coming the the yellow/checkered flag on lap 47? This was your first time racing with these guys and you trusted them with no hesitation...

Morse: What was going thru my mind when I went for that 3 wide was...I should have backed out, too late though and I would have caused a wreck by backing out so I just floored the pedal and went for it. I trusted these guys because I had raced with them the entire day and I saw good clean racing all day. That means a lot to me and other drivers. It made the decision easier even though it was a scary one to say the least <G>. I will go 3 wide with these guys no questions asked. All of us showed good racing and able to hold our spots on the track. This (Daytona) 250 is going to be fun and a tough one from start to finish.

Reporter: Well thank you for your time today Nick and good luck in the Daytona 250.

Morse: Thank you for having me today and see you around.
