HFRL: The 3 Turns of Pocono!

Hurricane Force Racing League

The HFRL teams rolled into Pocono hoping for the best. Some were fast right off the truck, while others struggled early but improved during the weekend, and some had a short stay. Team Downforce Racing sat on the front row with #40 Bob Brewer turning a lap of 54.939 seconds, and Gary taking the pole with the time of 54.859 seconds.

The race started off slow with a few early cautions coming out, but would prove to be an exciting second half.

One the new drivers competing for the "Rookie of the Year" honors, #11 Mike Hill, finished in 4th place. His last week's 6th place finish at Dover helped him move up to #2 in the points standings. "I'm happy with our finish, great second half racing? Always good to finish under green. I felt we had a top 5 car and if I could stay out of trouble and race smart, we would get that top 5 finish. Luckily, I pitted during the last caution before the long green run to the finish. During that run, I picked up a few positions on the track to move into the top 5. Congratulations to Gary for an impressive run from pole to winners circle."

We caught up with #63 Don Miller after the race... "Motor Problems hit the team as I popped the motor going into turn 1 in the first lap of qualifying. With a new power plant in the Chili's Pontiac we had a lot of ground to make up from the back. The car was working great and then out of no where on a restart the wheel come apart going into turn 1 . After repairs to the car wheel and driver we dodged a few spins then went green the second half of the race which helped as the car was handling great. I made it up to 3rd but just didn't have the time or the pony's to close in on DFR guys ( Gary and Bob) .I would like to say congrats to them guys great race." Don finished a strong 3rd.

The usual performance out of the #40 stable earned Bob Brewer a 2nd place finish. Between this weeks and last weeks performance he is sitting atop of the HFRL Points standings. "I`d like to thank my sponsors FLOWMASTER and RADEON, I new one of us DFR guys would win this race because of the practices we had it just goes to show ya, Practice Pays !!! I thought it was over for me when #63 Don Miller went high and chunked the wall, it set off a pretty big tangle of cars spinning and guess who got caught up in it, the pit crew guys worked on my car the last 3 cautions we had and brought the Radeon 300m back into contention with 20 or so to go my crew went with low tire pressure and a round of wedge Boy I had nothing for GARY . He deservers this win in a big way (High Five To Ya G-MAN !!) Great win Man."

The #6 Harley Davidson Ford Taurus, of Gary Bell took the win at Pocono! He rolled off the truck strong, and never looked back! This is Gary's first HFRL Win, and his first pole of Season #2. "We knew we were fast off the truck, My teammate Bob Brewer and I went to Pocono and did some extensive testing last week to get the cars to handle right, and it really paid off today. The game plan was to just take care of the car, and stay out of trouble, fortunatly everyone raced extremly clean toward the end off the race, and we got our turn in victory lane finally!"

Pocono proved to be a little too much for some teams, and it showed that testing really payed off. Wednesday the HFRL Hurricane hits Michigan, until then... "keep her off the walls".
