HFRL: Hurricane Circles Texas

Hurricane Force Racing League

As usual Texas Motor Speedway threw the drivers for a loop. Drivers, and Crew’s were scratching their heads all through the practice sessions. The weather played a major part of the weekend, as it always seems to do in Texas. Teams came in with setups and and their notes from the last time only to throw everything they had out the window. "Loose" was the word of the day heard all over the garage area.

After plenty of testing by the teams, Texas Motor Speedway proved that it can change with no warning. Some teams left scratching their head, and others left feeling fortunate. Next week they at Martinsville.

Gary Bell took the Bud Pole Award in the #6 Harley Davidson Ford and led the field to the start. Don Miller, turns it around in front of #98, David Stickney in the early going. Gary Bell, leads as #25 Dan Finch breaks loose. Dan had a good car early on but was another victim of the slick track.

#62, John Wilcko was taking it easy, minding his own business when his car abruptly takes a turn for the worse. It was said that the track may have had some oil spots around the same area. Teams take advantage of the first few cautions to tighten their cars up and get fresh rubber. #40, Bob Brewer would prove to have the car to beat for most of the day. Up front there were plenty of battles between himself, Gary, and John.

A misunderstanding between the pace car and #6, Gary Bell. It seems that his spotter was telling him to stay low and did not happen to see the pace car coming out of the pits to catch the field under caution.
#17, John McClaren had a great car all day long. Here he’s running in 3rd followed by #98, David Stickney.

#18, Jim Russell proved to be the sleeper of the day finishing 3rd. In the final 20 laps, he and #2, Rick Clark were battling for position. After running in the top 5 all day, #17 John McClaren ruins his chances at victory when he gets out of turn two a little too hard and his car got away from him.
#2, Rick Clark passes the lapped car of #17 John McClaren in the final twenty laps. #18 Jim Russell, and #2 Rick Clark battle for the 2nd position. After many laps of hard racing, Rick finally gets by to grab 2nd Place.

#98, David Stickney took the lead from #40, Bob Brewer, who had connection problems, with 40 laps to go, and never looked back. He gets his first victory of the season.
