Dan Riffero: Pro Race Driver Demo Disappointing

When I heard that a demo for the much anticipated racing sim/RPG Pro Race Driver was release I was very excited. I made sure to grab a copy of Computer Games for the demo disk wrapped inside it's plastic wrapping. Despite the warning on the demo's title screen regarding the demo only being 60% complete I am still very disappointed.

When I installed the game I knew that a lot of users were having issues with frame rates being below 10 frames per second. I figured that surely my P4 1.8 Gig CPU equipped with a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 video card would handle this game easily. I was wrong. Even at the lowest resolution setting and minimal detail the demo was too choppy to drive.

I did test the damage model, which is regarded as one of the most advanced damage models ever, and it seemed good from the little I could see. Unfortunately the demo did little to give me an idea of what the game play will truly be like.

Maybe the makers of the title were intending to let the users get a feel for how the menu system would work (which was good by the way) but I do not understand how this demo got leaked to the public.

Hopefully the completed title will work much better, but then again, how could it not work better?

Thanks for your time, see ya on the sim race track.
