BRS Outlaws Close N4 Season at Texas

Bellstar Racing Series

The Bellstar Racing Series N4 season drew to a close with the final race at Texas this past weekend. A small turnout of only 12 drivers made the run. Runner-BRS grabbed the pole award and led the field to the green. The field spread out quickly as sonicphile tried to hang on to Runner-BRS's bumper. Despite these efforts, Runner-BRS was able to pull out to a .8 second lead during the early part of the green flag run. About 30 laps into the run though, tire wear started showing and sonicphile was able to move into the lead. A caution sent everyone to the pits where Runner-BRS's pit crew was able to get him back out in the lead.

A slight lapse in concentration though sent sonicphile into the wall at the end of the dogleg causing sonicphile to fall back 6 seconds. Meanwhile, Bezio-BRS and Runner-BRS battled back and forth for the lead in one of the truly great racing battles of the season.

On the final green flag pit stop, sonicphile pulls off a brilliant pit entry to close the gap with Runner-BRS. Runner-BRS still got out of the pits first, but sonicphile is now close. Runner-BRS stays out in front as the laps wind down and sonicphile can only hang on and try to stay close.

Coming into turn three to take the white flag, sonicphile goes high to try a pass. Just as he gets the edge on the outside, Runner-BRS starts to sputter....he is out of gas!!!! sonicphile gets a lucky break and goes on to take the win. Meanwhile, Runner-BRS manages to get back around for a 4th place finish.

As sonicphile noted after the race, it was "a good way to end the N4 legacy at BRS." With only 2 cautions for 7 laps it was also one of the cleaner races of the shortened N4 spring season. The Bellstar Racing Series now gears up for N2002 with a practice race this coming weekend and the season opener of their fall season the following week.
